5e Solo Gamebooks presents The Solo Dungeon Crawler by Paul Bimler. This one-sheet dungeon crawling tool is intended for solo players, and designed with one factor in mind - compactness. Using just this A4, printed and laminated, you can generate endless dungeon crawling adventures for your characters, without the need for a DM/GM. The idea is that you can take the included double-sided A4 anywhere and use it to generate adventures using only d6s and a deck of playing cards (for the Oracle Focus Table). In your car, at the library, on a coffee table. All you need is your characters, this resource, d6s and playing cards (or a random playing card app) and your RPG system, and you are ready to go!

Now released, The Solo Wilderness Crawler is the same

kind of product, but for overland hexcrawl adventures!

The Solo Dungeon Crawler is system-agnostic, and will work with any fantasy RPG, and probably other RPG types as well. Please take what you want from the system and leave out what you don’t want, substituting other resources as you see fit. I suggest you print this product out, double-sided, and get it laminated so you can use it over and over with dry-erase (whiteboard) markers. Or, you may prefer to print many copies and keep every dungeon you generate, to run later as a Dungeon Master. The choice is yours.

Front and Back of the A4 (print double-sided)

The front side is designed as a dungeon generator, with a small-scale grid for you to map out your dungeon as you move through it. Hence, this side is where all the dungeon generation tables are located. I’m quite proud of the heart of the generator, the Passage Table. This small d6 table may be the best dungeon generator I’ve ever created (and I’ve created a few!) An oracle table for answering yes/no questions is also provided on the front side. Also, the excellent Immersion Table from Tom Scutt's DM Yourself is also found within these tools (used with permission). Everything is rolled with d6. Two should be enough, 3-4d6 will be more than you need.

The flip side contains some other tables, as well as a battlemap for running close-quarters combat. The battlemap grid is a bit less than an inch. I reduced the size so that more squares could fit on the page. A miniature with a 1-inch base will still sit comfortably on these squares, with a little overlap. Draw your room shape (where the encounter is happening) over the grid and run your combat encounters on this. Three versions of the product are given: artistic dungeon tile (pictured), parchment (same as above, but with parchment background under the battlemap) and plain black grid (for the hardcore OSR fans!).

The flipside also contains an Oracle Focus Table (see below) for answering detailed questions that go beyond yes and no. This is kindly provided by Karl Hendricks, author of the excellent solo product One Page Solo Engine (used with permission). Also found on the flip side are NPC Tables, Item Table and a Monster Encounters Ideas table.

You will notice the file size is quite large. This is to ensure printing clarity.

So what are you waiting for? Endless adventures await you in the depths below! Pick up this outstanding product and get dungeon crawling!

The companion product to The Solo Dungeon Crawler is The Solo Wilderness Crawler, which deals with the random generation of wilderness adventures for solo players. Available here.

Well, I'm as cheap as they get. But this dollar item download purchase is one of those few moments when it's actually well done.

I plan to score a few print outs, and do as mentioned is a good idea by making one set as laminated as well for durability etc. Grease markers is my thing, I find them better to dry erase. And the more you use them, the more the surface gets polished.

You can go all in with D100 Dungeons (very recommended products), or cheap as hell and simple with these products.
I likely can see myself going for a walk for my daily hot chocolate (some of us don't like coffee) and playing some of this on the table.

How well does this print on a B&W printer?

Is the second d6 for the oracle table correct? "1) no 2-5) no mod 6) and" seems wrong - should the 1 be "but"?

There's a spelling error in the Curtailing Feature table. For number 4 it says "Rome w/o door". I'm guessing it's supposed to be "Room w/o door".

Also, I'd love to see a video on how it all works. :)

Hi Andy
Thanks for the heads up, I'll get this fixed as soon as I get a chance! Unfortunately I don't have any sort of set up to make videos, but if you check out the instructions I think you'll find it's pretty straightforward!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
